TYCD 2009 - A WHEELIE SUCCESSFUL EVENT
Undeterred by heavy rain showers, record numbers flocked into The Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge as it geared up for its third action packed “Think You Can Drive” (TYCD) event
Thanks to all exhibitors, sponsors, emergency services, the media and the doughty Cornish spirit …and some Plymouthians ...the day proved to be a notable success!
There was an endless queue of youngsters testing their skills on the F1 simulator presented by Steve Andrews Tyres, and loads of excited visitors had their photo taken beside the 2003 Formula 1 test car.
The skidpan proved so popular that it was in use all day and BSM who were offering pre 17 years a chance to drive on a safe route, found that they were inundated with youngsters wanting to take a turn at the wheel. Many brave parents tagged along too, as back seat driving took on a new meaning! Other popular experiences included the chance to learn how to back up a trailer from West Country Transport training and for even really little ones an opportunity to try skateboarding as long as they were of the age to stand up. With a bit of padding and little persuasion they were easily entertained.
The Fire Brigade, along with the other emergency services demonstrated the harsh reality of the aftermath of dangerous driving by simulating crash rescues and onlookers watched as the Air Ambulance helicopter made its spectacular “recovery” landing with a Police helicopter also providing added interest.
Kernow Cruz were seen showing off some of the best modified and performance fuelled cars in the South West whilst onlookers watched the Plymouth RC Racing cars as they competed for poll position
The Rotary Club of Truro would like to take this opportunity of thanking all exhibitors as listed for this year who all played a valuable part in making this an interesting and worthy event…to highlight that road users can enjoy an exciting and varied experience on the road, but always with caution in mind!
Proceeds from the event will go to the Air Ambulance, FLEET and Cornwall Hospice Care.
